Just pick up a photo album and start putting your cake photos in it. I invested in a digital camera with a printer so I take decent photos. It's been great for business!!!!

I don't have one yet...but I've thought about ways to put it together.....I plan on including an 8x10" photo of each cake and then maybe some other smaller sized photos of any close ups for details and so forth...and I plan on including thank you notes and so forth from customers (once I have some....and if they thank me lol) and some sort of description....buttercream...imbc...fondant...and so on so that people who don't necessarily know the difference will know what they're looking at for price reference.
Impatient aren't we?? Well I have my cakes sorted in to various catagories:
i.e. wedding, birthday-adult-male-female-children, anniversaries-wedding-bridal-baby-others, company-with logos-without logos.
I have several different books with only one theme per book. In a couple of others I have several theme's together for those who don't know exactly what they want. HTH ![]()
Maybe they're contemplating an answer?
My portfolio has a page for each "special" cake, with a decription on what I did to make it. Everything else is printed on pages together like a collage with the name of the item under it. My awards, certifications & diploma are all after the pictures.
I wish I had time to do some scrapbooky sort of creative thingy but my printed portfolio looks pretty much like my website cept maybe my website is a bit more snazzy, but only by a small margin.
I have only done relatively few cakes so thus far I just get the picture developed and put it according to category into a small photo album. I'm starting to take notes on who I made it for and such so that if the same people order a birthday cake next year, they don't get the same one!
Nothing fancy but then, organization isn't really my gig.
Sorry, not getting a reply posted in less than 20 minutes does not imply that nobody likes you.
Since I only bake and decorate for my family and friends, my album holds 4" x 6" photos that I print myself with my computer/printer. I think it helps a lot to be able to see how you improve over time, plus being able to "show off" your cakes if the opportunity arises! LOL
Anyway, welcome to CC it is a great place. Janice
I bought a book at Staples that has transparent liners within it. Each time I make a wedding cake, I print off a pic of the cake along with a description of the cake and cake sizes (so I can remember)
I have one for wedding cakes and one for specialty cakes. Finally my wedding cake one is almost full!
I don't really do this as a business, mostly for family and friends, so my 'book' is just to show off what I have done. When I started I had a regular camera so I did nice scrapbookish pages. Nothing super fancy. I think there are some really neat scrapbooking ideas, but you have to be careful and make sure you are accenting your cake pictures and not taking away from them. Since the digi cam I've gotten more lazy. I print the pictures out on a page with a title and the date that I did them. If I have several pictures of one cake I'll arrange them with one bigger and the rest smaller.
All of my picture pages are in big binder in order from my newest to oldest. That way when I show people like my grandma she can start with the newer pictures and work her way to the ones she has seen before.
If I had a business and wanted to so the pictures as what I have done and could do, I'd probably break them down in groupings like I did for my website (when I had one). That away if they were looking for an christmas cake they wouldn't have to look through all the rest of the years cakes to get there.
I'm only a wedding cake maker so I don't need to seperate pictures. I had one large portfolio but with all the photos I kept adding I broke the binding. Cool huh!!! I went out and bought two portfolios and decided after years of just putting pictures in a plain portfolio I decided to spice it up. I went with pictures in hand and picked a different scrap book paper for each cake. With 123 pictures it's taken several days to cut and mat eveything but dang it looks good! It's a great visual aid and I can't believe I did'nt do it earlier. One last thing is I have to do is put a sticker in each corner with the serving of each cake.

Sorry nglez09 I meant the coment as an ice breaker. My bad. I know that when you want an answer right away, time seems to go so slow. Hopefully you have gotten the answer you were wanting. I wish sometimes that I knew how to scrap book. But I am into cake decorating to deep to lift my head to another craft. ![]()
