good morning everyone. does anyone have a good rule of thumb for charging for your cakes? I spend a lot of time and money making cakes for ppl w/out charging. I just charged for my first cake, and it was very uncomfortable for me, it was a friends sister. i don't what it is, but i just feel guitly for some reason. supplies cost me about 30 and hours of my time, i charged her 60. she asked for servings for about 30ppl, so i did 36 plus an additional 4" for the oneyearold. I just charged $2 per slice, and charged her for 30 slices. any advice so next time could be a little more comfortable? how do some of you charge?

Did you charge her after you made the cake or did you quote her a price first? If you quoted the price first, she had a chance to decide if she felt if it was reasonable or not; and since she still had you make it; then seems like all is ok.

If you charged her after the fact; what was her reaction? Did she seem as uncomfortable as you felt?

I always tell people first what the cake will cost.

I never spoke to her, because it was my friends sister, so I did tell her what i would charge, and she didn't tell her sister, but she did know i was charging, just didn't know what? which was what made it more uncomfortable.
