I'm decorating cookies as favors for my wedding and since I'm already doing things DIY I don't want to be making cookies last minute! I'm hoping I can bake and decorate them in small batches and then freeze them. So questions....

1) Is it even a good idea to freeze decorated cookies? Will they still be yummy when they come out of hibernation?

2) How long can they be frozen for?

3) Any other tips or suggestions from the pros?

THANKS!!!!

What are the cookies going to be decorated in? I have frozen cookies decorated in RI and had no problem with thawing, bleeding colors or funky freezer flavors. I would think you could also freeze cookies decorated in MMF (or the like) since I always 'set' the fondant in the freezer after I cut it with the cookie cutter and never had a problem.

Big thing to remember is to package the cookies quite air-tight for the freezer. Some people use the Food Saver to do that. I just use ziploc bags and an air-tight container. And once you want to thaw the cookies, take out 24 hours in advance of when you need them and don't open the container so you don't let condensation form on the cookies.

HTH!
