I live in Missississippi and was wondering what you guys think I should charge for 40 cupcakes they are for a children's birthday party and are slightly involved I have to buy cookie dough for the face, star burst for the horns, chocolate chips for the eyes along with the cake mix and frosting and deliver to the lady who doesn't live very far. What would be a fair price?
What first came to your mind? With all that work involved in decorating on top of baking, I would think at LEAST $1.00 to $1.25 per cupcake. Are they the standard muffin-tin size or are they larger? If they are larger the price should be higher.
I have been kind of wondering the same thing about cupcakes. I was thinking maybe around $15 a dozen because one cake mix = 24 cupcake or 8 inch round. I think I am going to charge $30 for an 8 inch round. (so same amount of cake..does that make sense?) But also you would have to take into consideration the decorations and time and cost in them. Sounds like you have a great deal involved in each cupcake. So maybe like 1.50 each or something.
Ihate to say this but I charge 1.25 for cupcakes that have only frosting on the. Thats may base price. So when you start put other decorations on them and more time consuming labor and more money into them you have to raise the price. I would say for what you have to to you sould charge around 1.75 -2.00. That would give you $70 -$80. I have charged up to $3.50 per cupcake no questions asked here in TX. You can do it. You'll do amazing.

You guys are great thanks for all the advice! The cupcakes are standard size and I thought $1 each at first but after reading your posts I'm thinking more like $1.50-$1.75 cause I don't usually do cupcakes so this will be more time consuming than icing a birthday cake. Oh well glad to have the business and look forward to the challenge!
