How long in advance can you make a BCTF?

2 hours is good. It gives you time to make the transfer and time for it to be frozen (about an hour) then you can flip it onto your waiting cake. If it takes you longer (like you have a really detailed picture) I would take that timing into consideration also. Just make sure that you have it in the freezer at least an hour.

Will the transfer melt into the icing. If I put it on cupcakes on Thursday night will it be ok to be served on Friday?
Thanks for any advice.

you do kinda of want the transfer to meld into the base frosting. helps it to look more like you did the impossible, LOL. should be ok just don't put them in the fridge the condensation will cause the colors to bleed and drip. the icing will be fine by that time it should have crusted over

Thank you so much!

One more question if you don't mind.I posted on another thread but haven't gotten a answer yet.

I'm confused about what to do once I finish filling in the picture.I am to put white icing on the back somehow?

It depends on the picture. Sometimes I use the same color icing as the top of the cake to coat the back. Other times I just use white. Some times I don't even do it! It just takes practice to find out what way works for you.

you can take some of your base color frosting and a # 4 round tip and pipe it all over the back of the image then press it a little bit to make sure that you don't have any air holes in the front part and that the background gets into the little nooks n crannies of the design. I should really note here that you should put a piece of parchment over your design before pressing it. You really don't want frosting all over yer hands, that would get messy. LOL
I don't see why one couldn't make the image a few days in advance or even farther in advance. Just as long as you take it straight from the freezer to your cake surface. You have to immediately apply the image before it starts to thaw. then I wouldn't worry bout it just don't put it back in the fridge or freezer because of the weepy problem with condensation.
