I have seen so many pretty things on here made from gumpaste. I have worked with gumpaste, but everytime I do it's so sticky. It's like working with chewed up bubble gum. I pat it with powdered sugar, but the minute it touches itself it's stuck! Have to scrap it start over argh!. It's so soft too I can't get it to stand on it's own. Is it me or is it gumpaste. I have to mix it with fondant for it to work.

try using shortening on your hands. A mix of 1/2 powdered sugar and 1/2 corn starch is also good to use.

It's sticky stuff, for sure.

I wear gloves when I work with it, and that helps a lot. And I use pure cornstarch on all of my tools and work surface. I just keep it in the little dusting bag (came with a Wilton course kit, but I heard you can use clean pantyhose, too), and keep dusting it on the surfaces as I work. Powdered sugar may taste better than cornstarch, but gumpaste doesn't taste good anyway- those decorations rarely get eaten anyway.

Gumpaste should never be sticky. Please check out my website for a great, no fail recipe...www.crawfordscreations.com
