Hi everyone! My husband took my cake pics to work and I have my first order for 2 retirement cakes at the end of next month! Each cake will serve 100. I thaught 16+22+2 would be good for each. Is there a pan this big or do I need to use an 8+11 and put two together for each cake? (Four 8 by 11's total? )
Also, surely you dont torte a cake this big do you? I'm kinda scared, but very excited!
One last thing...Where are the best online sites to buy petal & luster dusts?
Thank you for the replys
According to the Wilton Website the 14x22x2 cake should serve 98 people. So you should be okay with your sizing. I have never done a cake this large myself, but I would be scared to torte a cake that large. You can always bake smaller cakes and place them side by side to get the size you want. It depends on what you are used to/what pans you already have etc.
I've made half sheet cakes before and have yet to attempt to "torte" them, if that means cut in half and fill lol... I've always left them hole and leveled by using the clean towel technique (take a clean hand towel fold and press gently and evenly over the top as soon as it comes out to make level with pan top). If you do decide to slice and fill please show pictures or comment back and let us know how difficult it was lol. Sheets are basically all I've done with the exception of the halloween cakes so I'd be interested in knowing how hard it is to fill them ![]()

If you find a pan that size measure your oven first, I know that I can't fit a full sheet in mine. Your size sounds fine, it depends on who you talk to what dimensions they use for sheet cake sizing (I use 9x13, 12x18 & 18x24). I figure a full feeds about 100 depending on the size of the pieces.
Icing them together works, I haven't bought a 12x18 yet so I have to piece them together. You just have to make sure that the cakes are all the same height so the icing is smooth. I level mine right in the pans before I take them out, I just run a knife through the hump using the pans side as my height guide.
