Since I have completed and delivered my first bridal shower cake I was just wondering how much would you charge for this cake? It was a three tiered cake (6/8/10) iced in buttercream. Would you charge extra for the silk flowers and cake drum? I was thinking between $1.50 to $2.00 a serving. I am very new to the cake decorating game. The bridal shower cake was a FREE cake for my daughter-in-law's brother. They had a coed bridal shower for them combining the margaritaville/luau theme. I wanted to practice, and I got great reviews from the guests at the shower. I also baked 4 dozen white sour cream cupcakes with almond and margarita flavored buttercream.
My price would be:
$175 for the three tiers
$48 for cupcakes
$price of flowers +15%
The cake price includes the drum but not the flowers... I would charge price of the flowers plus 15% to cover time to buy and/or arrange. Cake and cupcake pricing is for no filling (cake would have buttercream between layers to hold them together)
Oh and my price includes delivery within 7mi of the center of my town. Any mileage beyond that is $0.50/mi (both ways)
HTH, it is a beautiful cake.
My daughter got married about a year ago (before I started decorating). She got a three tiered butter cream cake from a local grocery for $180. It was simple, but nice. So, I would charge at least that plus what ever expenses you had in your flowers. I think as beginners we can charge more than the grocery due to ours being baked fresh. But if the designs are fairly simple, then I think it shouldn't be way more. Just my opinion though. who am I. I've found it's also a little tricky to try to judge by the time you spend. As a beginner, most of the cakes I've made, if I were to make a second one just like it, would only take me about half the time the second time around. When I get going good I would like to make about $20/hr. Decent for where we live. Now I think if I make about $10 and hour, that's probably what my skill level is worth at this point. I can do a bit nicer than what the minimum wage folks at WalMart are doing, but I'm a LOOOOONg way from Collette Peters stuff.
