...the fact that i have become a really good baker gets me sometimes. i mean, I AM proud of myself. but the part that irks me is when it is late at night and i am here on cc, and i have a craving for something good. well, i dont happen to have the time to "whip up" a marvelous treat just to kill my craving...and though i live within minutes to many stores that are open late...i just CANT BRING MYSELF TO GO BUY PASTRIES or little debbie snacks, or bakery cookies or anything cause they're not as good as mine ! i am so vain and its killin' me. i need some sugar! but its gotta be good.... icon_cry.gificon_biggrin.gif

I know what you mean. I bake all of the time but I never get to enjoy it now. I am tire or it is too late to cook for me.

I keep several 4" layers in my freezer for an "emergency". It's quick to throw together a nice glaze to put on the mini-cake. My favorite glaze is a simple chocolate glaze, made with chocolate chips, corn syrup, butter, and vanilla.

Melysa... I am holding your hand and singing the same song!!! I know there are other bakers out there that are better than me, but, unfortunately, Hostess doesn't happen to be one of them. It's not their fault really... they have to use all those preservatives to keep it edible, and that's what makes it so gross, I think. There is one sure fire answer for me though... my secret addiction... Lofthouse Sugar cookies. Even though I am a pastry and sweets elitist, I L-O-V-E Lofthouse. They are my 'drug' of choice when I can't make something myself. On the occasions that I break down and get some, I get that crazed look on my face, and my sister will say, "EW!! Yours are so much better, why would you eat THOSE?" And I have to set her straight... I will defend those little scraps of heaven to the death! Hahaha! You don't bag on the Lofthouse in front of me!!! icon_lol.gif

Also, like many of you, I rarely eat all the delicacies I bake because I'd be 600 pounds if I gave in to it. Yes... my treats are really good, and it's painfull to deny them, but I want to live to see my son grow up! Hahaha! But I also feel like a snob when I turn down other treats from other sources, but the way I see it, if I am only going to eat a tiny bit of these treats, they are going to be good ones, and I KNOW I like what I make!

When I make a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough, I don't bake the whole batch. I'll bake off 1 or 2 dozen and portion the rest of the dough freeze them and keep them in ziplock bags for those times when you are having an attack and need something sweet and GOOD! In about 10 minutes you have FRESH, HOT cookies yuuuuuuummmmmm. It doesn't get any better than that. icon_biggrin.gif Thanks Melysa! Now I'm craving some cookies!!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

ok, I love homemade cookies but the pillsbury oatmeal raisin (from the freezer section) - you know, the break apart ones, I just love. Of course, I have to slap some icing on top, but they are semi homemade! I never make treats for home - my husband didn't even get a bday cake until a week after his bday - and it was a simple red velvet 9" round. nothing elaborate. I should be ashamed of myself!

I always bake a double batch all at once. I freeze half of the cookies, and when I'm hungry for a cookie, I'll eat it frozen. (ok, I'll eat "them" frozen. Tastes great.

Haha, last week I had to make about 50 cookies, a cake, and 3 dozen cupcakes for a birthday party. The whole time I was in the kitchen my mom was making up songs about how I was so mean (of course joking, lol) and she just wanted one cupcake or cookie.

My whole family gets upset that I just don't make anything because, and if I ever do I get the "you're gonna make us all huge".

I can't leave the kitchen without someone swiping something!

hubby is always saying that I don't bake for us anymore! I tell him there's cake scraps in the freezer and frosting, all I need to do is defrost! My mom loves that, she was over the other night and asked what was for dessert. I took some cake scraps out, put some frozen chocolate bc on top and put it in the microwave on defrost, in a minute we had something yummy!!

LOL I soo know what you are talking about, and it's not even because I'm a pro - I'm a novice baker but one of the reasons I do it is that I LOVE good quality yummies. And since I wasn't getting any of those anywhere else, I started making them myself using only high-quality ingredients and stellar recipes (most of which found here of course). But after venturing into these incredible recipes and things like ganache icing and IMBC, now I am totally RUINED for junky snacks. Oh I remember the days when I could eat HoHos and Ding Dongs with reckless abandon. Anyone remember Zingers? Chips Ahoy? Remember when those actually tasted good? Sheesh I can't even eat a Hershey's kiss anymore--and Godiva is starting to get kind of boring too.

On the upside, it definitely helps keep you healthy. It's so easy to pass up those treats...I always say "The taste isn't good enough; it's not worth the calories." So your body is probably thrilled about your attitude, even though your mouth is begging for some sugar. And I'll bet those cookies mixed up faster and easier than ever before just because you wanted them so badly.

OK, *starting* to get boring! icon_smile.gif Godiva to me is like Hershey's was back when I liked Hershey's--now I consider Godiva "the cheap stuff"! LOL!!! Oh my if you have ever had these chocolates from La Maison du Chocolat (had some when I was in London once) your sugar snobbery would get worse too. Also this truffle place XOX in San Francisco...mmmm...Godiva goshmiva... icon_wink.gif

That said, I am not above getting my chocolate fix from my Costco-sized bag of Nestle chocolate chips in the cupboard. Just add macadamia nuts or peanut butter...mmm...

Everytime I bake cookies late at night for one of my cravings, the smell wakes one of the kids up. What am supposed to say when they ask...."Yum!, What's that I smell?" except...."I'm not sure sweetie, I guess the neighbors are baking something again!" icon_redface.gif
