Shopping For Stand Mixer, Which One To Get?
Decorating By lanesmom Updated 8 Nov 2006 , 6:14pm by Jopalis
I told my husband the other day that I knew what I wanted for Christmas and he immediately responded "one of this big mixers". I asked him how he knew and he said he had already decided that he was going to get me one! What a guy!
Anyway, I have been shopping around for a KA, waiting for some sales. Then I saw the post this morning about the Cook's mixer on sale at JCPenney and now I am wondering if that might be a better way to go. I don't do a lot of heavy duty baking, a cake every now and then so I don't need a professional size mixer but I want the best bang for my buck? Any opinions?
I have the Sunbeam mixer on my wishlist from Walmart.... They also sell Kitchen Aids at Walmart for around $200.~ I would suggest getting a KA IF the prices are about the same. If it's not then maybe go with the cheaper one since you don't do that many cakes. I myself don't do many but I still want the $700.~ KA lol.... I guess cause I want to expand and make more and wouldn't want to have to buy it later lol
I love my cooks! It is so powerful and I could not be happier. I got it at JC Penny for $139 opposed to waiting to get the KA.
Love my KA and have had it for 20 years....only problem is, no where to have the beaters adjusted in this town and they are now hitting the sides of the bowl. I hate thinking I have to buy a new KA just because of that. Maybe someone out there knows where I could get my beaters adjusted. Thanks so much.
You can always buy a new beater from KA. They sell them if you where interested in getting a new one. I just got a KA and in the book that comes with it they have different kinds of beaters as well as different size bowls things like that. But as for which one to get I have no clue I just got a KA cause I always here about them and when looking at the KA they have those extra things you can add to it like a juicer can opener etc. anyways thats why I wanted a KA. Plus I am a Martha Stewart addict and when I hear her talking about a KA thats when I knew I should get it.
I have an oldy but goody KA...It is over 20! If, for some horrible reason, I would have to replace it, I would be unsure of going KA again. The reason is all the complaints about the new ones not handling loads and dying out quickly.... see Amazon.com, Epinions.com and the KA site itself (has forums, etc.) I may look at DeLonghi among others. I burned out 2 Sunbeams before going to KA many moons ago. Don't just think about what you need now...Look down the road... you may find yourself doing more. I like to use mine for bread and pasta dough as well as fondant, etc. It is an investment.... Sometimes you get what you pay for... Good Luck... I love my KA...I cried last Christmas when it quit... a friend fixed it bless his heart. There was a problem with something called the brushes in the motor.... made an awful noise and then quit. KA site also tells you how to align your beaters.... It can be fixed but not with new ones unless you bent the old ones.... ![]()
