I have spotted some pics in the galleries (did a search for "kittens") that are round or oval cakes, iced with a basketweave and topped with icing kitties. They are adorable and I am wanting to try this, but not sure how the kittens were made.
Not sure if they were cupcakes with the grass tip making fur or if they were from a cake mold....just not sure.

Have tried PMing those I saw, but no replies. Does anyone have a suggestion or tip on how to make something that looks like a kitten on a cake?

Or even fondant cats? Thanks so much!!

I've made that type of thing before (sorry, no pic in my photos! icon_sad.gif ) and when I did it, I just did them with styrofoam balls.
Maybe someone else will have a "cake" idea. icon_smile.gif

I made a cake like that. It is from a Wilton book. I will try to add the picture here. The little girl I made it for wanted dogs but the idea is the same. I made a 10 inch (I think) 2 layer cake and the dogs (cats) are made from the mini-ball pan. The basket handle is royal and fitted inside hidden pillars. If you need more info let me know. I will also add the picture to my photos in case my attachment doesn't work.

Oh and I did use the grass tip for the fur. I like the way it makes the fur look realistic.

Oh KathysCC thank you!! That is exactly what I was talking about! Love it!!!!! I don't have a mini ball pan, but this is an excuse to go get one tomorrow icon_lol.gif (Read earlier that Hobby Lobby is having a 40%off Wilton coupon for next week)

I am now on a mission! AmyCakes2, thanks for the styro ball idea. That is a good idea and I do have those!!

Again, thanks ladies...you have been a huge help! thumbs_up.gif

Just a correction. I looked up this cake in the book. It is in the 1994 Wilton cake book and it calls for a 12 inch round cake pan.

I've seen the kittens here somewhere, made with big round cookies. Not as 3D as these, but very cute!
