Okay, after seeing some cakes on here that were done with the kopy kake projector, I really want one!!

Even though I am just a home hobbiest with no real or even steady business, I am in love with the look of those cakes!

Someone please smack some sense into me! Am I crazy for even seriously considering one of these?

Nope, you're not crazy! I want one too. But I just invested in edible image equipment sooo...

But someone posted a while back (sorry can't remember who) about the projectors at Hobby Lobby that you can get the stand to go with them. I looked at them and I like it. With the coupon it would be less than $15 for the projector then the stand is extra. All in all it is a lot cheaper than the kopykake. Especially for me since I don't know how much I will use it and I really can't afford the other. I don't know how to post a link but if you search under forums I'm sure the post will come up. HTH and goodluck! icon_smile.gif

I had seen a post on here a while back about one that someone got at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I was at Michaels on Sunday (50% coupon) and my daughter was in the Art section. I had forgot all about the projector and then there it was. They had 3 and they ranged from $24 to 85. And I still have another 50% coupon for this Fri and Sat. So I might get it. One of them has some info on how to order a stand so you can use it like a kopykake projector. I have used the kopykake and they are slick.

I have a kopy kake. I bought mine on ebay-brand new for $150+. With the cheaper ones, I would just make sure that you will be getting a sharp image. I wish I would have gotten one that had a swivel head on it, so I could project on the sides of the cake also.

My husband would shoot me! I don't have the business now to justify such a purscahse.

Good luck on your decision!

I'm the one who posted about the "ProjectaScope" a while back. I purchased mine at HL over the summer, and ordered the stand to go with it! With the 40% off coupon I spent around $13 for the projector and the stand was under $30 shipped.

I use mine more than I ever thought I would! Here is a link to the other forum, with more info:

It does take a little time to set up the projector, and get it focused. A few people had some problems with theirs, but I think they worked them out for the most part. This is another forum where we discussed the set-up/operation problems they were having:

HTH!

I dont know if it would work for you but if you dont want to invest in expensive equipment my son has a crayola trace and draw that i have used on occasion and those are only like 15 bucks.

Pookster- The KopyKake is used to project an image onto your cake. You then trace it with icing and fill in. I use mine constantly, especially for messages on cakes. I can write out exactly what I want, in whatever style I want, and I know it'll come out perfectly. I was also lucky, as the lady I took decorating classes from was getting out of the business to concentrate on selling her icing, and she gave me her projector for free! It's the one piece of equipment I couldn't do without.

I also have the crayola trace n' draw, and it works very well. But, you are limited to the designs you can use by the disks that are available!

I have both the expensive one and the cheap one...the KOPY KAKE projector gives a clearer picture, but for someone that is a home baker..the cheap one is a good working alternative.

I would purchase the one at Michaels with the coupon first...order the stand and let it pay for itself...then...

As I got busier, I would invest in the KOPY KAKE PROJECTOR

just my 2 cents

You can also use the projector for various art projects, not just for cakes. My kids used it for a lot of school projects that required posters. I'd invest in the real thing, if you can afford it. You won't regret it.

I did invest in the small projector exclusively for the price. I used to work in a bakery and have used the KopyKake projector. While I definitely agree the KopyKake gives a far better clarity, the cheap one gets the job done.

If and when I have the finances, I will be upgrading to the KopyKake. But, for now, space is also a concern...and the cheap projector is also smaller and easier for me to store!

Having had the opportunity to use both brands, I would definitely recommend the KopyKake if space and finances lend anyone that chance. For me that is simply not an option at this time!

Well, I wasn't going to say anything specifically since I didn't know if it would be "cool" or not...but since she posted on this thread... It's Tazzack's awesome cakes that made me want a projector. You should check out her photos. She also makes me want an airbrush! icon_lol.gif
