Followed Earlene's tutorial and got the pearls made. They are now drying. I am going to use for a cake on Saturday (decorate on Friday). How long do I need to let them sit out?

MOST IMPORTANTLY - how do I get them to stay on the buttercream that has crusted???? I really want to stack 2 of my tiers at home to relieve some of the pressure icon_redface.gif , will they be all right???

Not sure about how long they need to sit out, but I always attach mine w/ just a little Royal Icing.

I made some a few weeks ago and let them sit out for 5 days. I covered them with some paper towels to keep the dust off them. I originally stuck them in the oven to keep them safe but turned the oven on icon_mad.gif and ended up with brown muck. icon_redface.gif I don't recommend that. Had to make more. icon_evil.gif

They need at least 3 days to dry and depending on your humidity could be longer.

Thank you both! meancat, did you use the royal on buttercream?

aswartzw, so sorry about the "cooked" pearls. That sounds like something I would do - I am forever hiding stuff from company in my oven or shower! icon_lol.gif

Any other ideas about how to attach them??

royal would probably be fine, it just won't get hard. If you don't like the RI idea, piping gel is super sticky and will hold your pearls.

I have no idea but I would like to know where you got the tutorial for making the pearls? I would love to learn. Thanks!

Well, normally you put the pearls on the bc while its still soft. But now you'll need to add a little bit of bc and then attach the pearl. Try not to let the bc dot show. Alternately you can get the tinest bit of water on the pearl then press it into the bc.

And you really can use them soft--no need to let them dry much at all.

I agree with Leah. no need to let the pearls dry. I'm not usually that organized anyway LOL. I also use BC to attach them and apply with a tweezer that is dedicated to cakes so I dont' get my fingers in the frosting!

I piped a tiny line along the crease of the cake with buttercream icing and attatched the pearls. If any of the icing peaked through I used a small brush to take it off.

Thank you all for your replies! Wish me luck!! This is for my infamous "groomzilla" nephew's cake - don't want to mess it up!! I do love him and it is nice to see him so excited and wanting to participate in the cake.

See, I went to church this morning and listened to the lesson! "Be positive in all you do." Please remind me of this on Wednesday when I am doing the rehearsal cake. LOL!! I am making a pumpkin shaped cake and he is going to "carve" the fondant in a design for his sweetie. Then for the wedding day, Saturday, they are calling for 50% chance of rain. We haven't had rain in weeks and weeks, but I don't want to deliver the cake in the rain!!
