I'm stumped, i cant find any cardboards for the wedding cake i'm making next weekend, 3 tiered, squared 16in,12in,8in. I need to make a beautiful cake stand for this cake and i cant find anything with this size HELP!!! ![]()
I think I saw somewhere around Cake Central where someone used a scroll type plant stand that they spray painted to match everything else. For the size cake you're describing, you'd probably want to use something low and strong so the whole thing doesn't topple over or collapse. Since this is your first wedding cake and you've only got a week left until the wedding, is renting a stand from either a cake decorating supply place or a party rental place an option so you don't make yourself nuts? ![]()
Are you looking for cake boards or a decorative cake stand? I wasn't sure which one you meant from reading your title and then your message.
If you need cake boards, you can always get foam board and cut to size using your cake pans for the sizing or you can get cardboard rounds and cut to the size you need. If you do cardboard, I'd recommend 2 cardboards stacked per cake for extra support .
If it's unique cake stands, cheeseball's idea sounds great.
OK I have taken a unusual approach.... I use a square ceramic floor tile that matches the cake. They come in sizes up to 18 inch square and I have seen 22 inch square. They are great, usually under $1.00 so no need to worry about getting it back, no cover necessary, won't bend, and food safe!!!!
For the stand I have used the glass blocks people put in windows for light but privacy. I have pics of using them in my gallery. You can use them in a square with tulle and lights, or cover with a nice material. They only cost about $3.00 each so I have 8 of them and can mix and match anyway I want.
You can find both things at Lowe's or Home Depot, but I usually try my surplus building supply store first. I have had the tile store give me their odd numbered left over tiles several times. ![]()
That's a good idea (I totally forgot about it), especially for a square cake ![]()
