I want to make a topsy turvy cake, i readu the tutorial and it seems really complex. Do you really need to make a hole in the cake or is there a trick?

The topsy turvy cake is really a illusion ( I haven't tried to make one yet but do understand the instructions so I will try to make it sound a little easier)

you take your base cake and make a cut to make a slanted top....then cut into that cake and make a flat base (this is how it looks UNLEVEL) so you can set your next cake into the hole you created and it actually has a stable layer to sit on...of course you would dowel as if you are stacking regular stacked cakes......you do this with each cake tier....

I am trying so hard to explain it but it isn't wanting to come out right.

There is another way to make that cake with acrylic or styrofoam wedges that you cover in fondant or cover with flowers, etc to give a similar appearance. I have done it both ways...I think they are both a pain, but at least with the wedges you don't have to bake so many cakes, just to basically cut an entire cake out and not use it.

My wild wedding cake was done with wedges.

Thank you mgdqeen I tried hard to explain the other way icon_sad.gif but yours sounds a little easier...I personally would find them a pain also...and would charge accordingly!!!
