I really want to try Fondx I've heard it is great. When I can't get fondant in time I make Toba garretts and it is really good Anyone else tried hers? It's very easy to make.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had problems with Satin Ice. It was recommended to me and I tried it. I too thought it had this chemical smell and it smelled and tasted like Play doh ( or at least what I imagine play doh would taste like) . I had to flavor it with Lorann oil to make it taste better. The main problem was how sticky it was. The first time I used it - it was very sticky. It was a humid day but not hot. I only used it for accents. The next time I tried to cover a whole cake with it - it was a hot day, and it was worse than using bazooka bubblegum. It stuck to everything. I had to scrape it off my mat - no amount of cornstarch helped. It was really disgusting. I'll never use it again. I still have some left over which i will probably throw away - a waste of money. I think I will stick to MMF. ( I like Rhonda's Ultimate) I haven't tried Toba Garrett's fondant recipe yet. http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-3183-Rhondas-Ultimate-MMF.html

Oh and if anyone has made Toba's fondant do you need the glycerin?

If you're gonna throw it away, can I have it instead? I love the stuff! icon_lol.gif

I have made Toba's recipe but it's way, way too sweet. You'll find that most home made fondant is very sweet due to the amount of powdered sugar that goes into it. I personally couldn't eat it when I made that recipe and put it on a small cake to try it out.

I admit that Satin Ice has a very good flavor, but difficult to work with if you don't move at the speed of light. It does refrigerate well, though, but then again, I've refrigerated all the brands I've worked with and have never had a problem.

CAn someone who has switched from Satin Ice to Fondx tell me why they like Fondx better? I was just about to order more Satin Ice and then I saw this post. I also think it's a bit sticky. Thanks! And where do you get your Fondx?

so what do you think the difference between Satin Ice and Fondx is? I mean taste wise and workability which one is better? I have to order a large tub of fondant soon (because I am becoming to lazy to make my mmf) and need to know which one to try...which one is easiest right out of the bucket?

Well, I got in touch with Satin Ice, and they gave me the telephone of two Baking supply places I could buy Satin Ice, one of the them was near my job, so at lunch time I went there (they are open from 7am to 3pm Mon-thru-Fri only). I got 20lb for $38.00 in white.

I have two cakes for this weekend so I will be using Satin Ice with them.

If any one in Miami, Florida is interested, here is the information;

Medina Baking supplies 305-545-5436 1864 NW 22 Street.
and American Cake Decorator Supplies 305-592-6414 3100 NW 72 Avenue.
