Menopausal Moments Are For Sure Going To Be The Death Of Me!

I'm in my kitchen, busy making a doctored carrot cake. I've all the ingredients out on the counter (or so I thought ) and am ticking them off my mental list as I include them in the batter. I come to the eggs, 3 are needed, and find 2 in the egg carton. Well, I think to myself, I'll just get the rest of these ingredients mixed in and then get the other egg from the fridge. Flash forward, I'm taking the pans out of the oven... hmm, these just don't look right... not as high as they should be... let them cool and remove them from the pans... a bit dry... what is going on? I look over the recipe again... darn it, darn it, darn it!!!!!!! I forgot that blasted egg!!!!
LOL...I have done that and then taken everything out of the oven and all the ingredients out only to find I am missing something. Then turn the oven off and put everything back. Remember this: Mise en place - A French term referring to having all the ingredients necessary for a dish prepared and ready to combine up to the point of cooking.
And this: cake balls.
I did that in a rush to do a pumpkin roll, which I should know by heart - was looking at the ingredient list (stupidly without my reading glasses) - go tthe batter made, spread out in the pan (gee, looks like is not as much as it should be). While it is baking I decide to taste batter from the beater .....YUK!!!!!..........forgot the cup of sugar! took it out of the oven, threw outside for the birds!
I did this just last week I was making a cinnamon stuesel cake made it a hundred times. got it all mixed put it in the oven. after 30 minutes it did not smell like cinnamon. duh I forgot to add it. oh well cake balls were made and a new cake baked. We all have done this before.
LOL!
That is why I read and re-read the recipe and then measure everything out before I start to combine.
How about having all the ingredients, mixing the cake, putting in the oven, setting the timer, watching a soap, hearing the bell, put on the glove, and open the oven to a nice warm - what the #@$@#$#$ - I DIDN'T TURN ON THE OVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we all can truthfully say we have done something stupid. The other day I was in a hurry to get to the shop, I keep 2 pairs of work shoes, one pair white and one black by my chair. I change shoes to help my feet, so it is just easier for me to keep them close. So I quickly put my shoes on, rushed to the shop and started to work. About an hour later a customer came in and asked me if I was starting a new trend? Didn't know what she was talking about, she very gently pointed to my feet..... I had one black shoe on and one white one on.......I was so embarrassed!!Talk about feeling like a stupid idiot!!
I hear ya.....One time, I invited our pastor and his wife and family to our house for Christmas dinner. We were fairly new in the church and I made the usual pumpkin pie for dessert........I FORGOT THE SUGAR!! Boy, did I feel silly
It happens to us all..................LOL
I forgot the water in a doctored cake mix. ROFL I had just put it in the oven, so I took it out, mixed the water in, and than baked it and it came out fine. ROFL I was SO embarrassed.

I feel your pain.
In order to turn on the oven you have to set one knob to bake and the other to your desired temp. Well, last night I went to preheat the oven and only turned the temp knob (I guess you know what happens next). When I attempted to put the chicken in, the oven was cold. ![]()

Wow, I've done a lot of stupis things in baking...such as putting 1 1/2 TABLESPOONS of baking powder instead of teaspoons...talk about crunchy cookies!
I guess we all must learn from our mistakes.
~onebigmomma, I go to school, and have MISE EN PLACE practically engraved in my brain! lol I don't know how many times I have heard that in the past few months
(mkolmar, are you reading this? lol)
~formerbuckeye, I feel I must say...GO BLUE! (from a current Wolverine) ![]()

I've done the forgot to turn on the oven thing too! I used to have a very sharp mind.... could remember everything ( just ask my husband and kids, lol ), but over the last 4 or 5 years I'm definitely losing it!. I'll have to remember about cake balls. I've never made them as my husband will pretty much eat anything. Yes, he ate this cake and just commented on how it "wasn't one of my better efforts
