I just got a call from a friend. Her niece is getting married on Nov 25th and needs a groom's cake badly. They have already exceeded their wedding budget. So I told her I would do it as my wedding gift to them.
So here is where you guys come in. I LOVE LOVE LOVE chocolate cake but most of my requests are for yellow. So I don't really have a signature chocolate cake.
I have made the choc cake in Whimsical Bakehouse with the cookies-n-cream filling. But I don't really think the cake is rich enough for a groom's cake. In my opinion, that is more of a birthday cake kind of chocolate.
And I have tried the Darn Good Choc Cake from the cake mix doctor. I made that with chocolate ganache and choc-covered strawberries for my sister's 30th birthday. It is possible I will use that one.
But then I run into the problem of what choc icing to use. I have never made a choc icing since most of my requests are for friends' children and they want cartoons and stuff.
So this is what I am looking for (and I searched the recipes on CC but there are so many that I wanted more opinions and ideas):
1) good, moist, rich choc cake
2) smooth, fudgy, chocolately icing for decorating
3) any other filling ideas (may use choc icing but not sure yet)
As far as decorating, I will probably decorate with the choc icing with standard borders with the ganache running down the sides and top with choc-covered strawberries.
Any recipes you guys would like to share are greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks a bunch!!
I recently tried the Black Magic cake on Hershey's website and it was a really dark, rich moist cake. It has become my new favorite chocolate! I did not try the frosting yet.
