Can anyone help me convert parts of a Gingerbread recipe please?

5 to 5 1/2 Cups Plain Flour
1 Cup Shortening (presume Shortening is White Fat)
1 Cup Sugar
1 1/4 Cups Molasses

I have a set of measuring cups, but I can't figure out how you measure something like Shortening into one, square block into a round cup?? I'm probaly just making a mountain out of a molehill but every time I try the cups something just doesn't work right.....

8 oz= 1 cup
2 cups = 1 lb

i hope this helps you out. i have a conversion chart on the back page of one of my cook books, i use it all the time!

but if your using stick shortening then you just follow the measurement guide on the wrapper.
