Well, if they want a 9x 13 cake then it would be two 9x13's stacked on top of each other. (2" tall cake + 2" tall cake). Most bakers charge more if using 3" pans.

I would say two seperate cakes, which then could each be cut in half and filled or not.

I put 1 1/2 cake mixes in my 9x13 sheet and it will be high enough with just one layer. I never make double layer sheet cakes. Sandy

I always make my 9x13 cakes 2 layers because I don't like the look of a 1 layer 9x13. The easiest way I have found to do this is: I bake a 12x18 sheet, cut it in half, level, torte and fill then put the 2nd layer on top. So easy to do and makes a nicer looking cake.

I put 1 1/2 mixes in my 9x13 so it stands nice and tall. To me any cake that comes out of one pan is a single layer. If you bake 2 separate cakes and stack one on top of the other, I call that a double. To take a 9x13, cut in half to fill so it LOOKS like 2 layers, I call that torting. Each decorator has their own lingo. Just be sure your customer understands what you mean so they know what they're agreeing to.
