Hi all
I was wondering if any of you had any great cake decorating books you could suggest to a newbie.
I have over 8 years of experience working in ceramic clay so I'm pretty adept, but Ive never really used fondant and have never used gumpaste at all.
Ive rolled out a few batches of fondant and covered cakes w/ it but thats about it.
I don't have time to take any classes right now cause I will be traveling a lot, plus I never have a set schedule, and I am pretty good at learning from books.
If you guys could suggest some Id definitely appreciate it.
Just what do you want to do? So if you tell me I'm interested in a book, I can point you to the right library, but if you tell me what style you want to learn, I can point you to the shelf.... ![]()
My recommendations for a beginning library:
Alan Dunn - Flowers
Colette Peters - Inspiration
Debbie Brown - Modeling, sculpting
Elsa Strauss - Inspiration
Kate Sullivan - Inspiration
Kerry Vincent - Master Techniques
Lindy Smith - Sculpting
Margaret Braun - Master Techniques
Nicholas Lodge - Master Techniques
Roland Winbeckler - Airbrushing
Rose Levy Beranbaum - Recipes
Scott Clark Woolley - Flowers
Toba Garret - Master Techniques
Here are the ones I currently have (always adding though):
Confetti Cakes by Elisa Strauss
Colette's Birthday Cakes and Cakes to Dream On by Colette Peters
The Whimsical Bakehouse by Kay and Liv Hansen
Some other authors frequently mentioned here are Nicholas Lodge, Debbi Brown, and Toba Garrett.
Also look for Wilton publications like their Yearbooks. You can usually find those in the cake decorating section at your local hobby store.
