What Would Your Ideal Bakery Be Like?

Tiptp57 your dream is mine too. I don't really want a bakery where people can come and lounge. I want a cake decorating business where I spend most of my time creating. I want a great staff that is fun to work with. I'd like a nice space for tastings and for the customer and I to sit down to discuss the order. I would love a big window on the storefront where I can display my dummies.
For my shop, I would want a good location. Hopefully a place that has good traffic (both foot and car).
I would want to sell decorated cakes, cookies, and other sweets. I would also like to do special things during the holidays, like gift tins with goodies, gift sets, and so forth.
Depending on the size of the store and so forth, might do some food items.
I'm also tossing around the idea if I would want to sell some cake decorating supplies. There isn't much in the way of good cake supply stores in the area. And even places like Hobby Lobby, Micheals, and Meijers has a very limited selection. This would entirely depend on how much room I have and so forth.
Besides having a store front to sell goodies, I would also like to try to sell stuff at craft shows and the local farmer's market.
This is a fun post!
I have been dreaming of this recently, too! My ideal shop would be a "cake boutique". I would not have cakes ready for the taking, you would have to come in and order in advance. But I know some girls who make scrumptious little desserts and chocolates that I would have for sale. I want to offer floral services as well as balloons, making it a one stop shop. But I would also have fun kitcheny items, like fancy cake plates, cookbooks, pretty napkins, etc. I would have a sitting area for tastings and my portfolio and the rest of the shop would have my display cakes. I would, of course, have a state of the art stainless kitchen. I would love to find an old, quaint building with a large window, with an awning and a custom wooden hanging sign out front. I would also have the perfect hours for a mom with 3 school age children.
I hope my dream comes true, and all of your, too! ![]()

I opened my bakery 4 months ago. I love it!!! It is small - my customers can watch me make their foods for them. I also have a seating area for those who want to take a break. (we are a big tourist area). It is right downtown with lots of foot traffic.
I serve various pastries and cookies. I also have coffee/cappuccio all day long. I serve sandwichs and salads for lunch. All of my cakes/pies are made to order. I have a photo album with my cakes in it that sits on the countertop.
My hours are 6:00a.m.-3:00p.m. I have no employees but one of my good friends, her daughter comes in each day and helps out. I am starting to do breads now as well.
I have also done 2 catering jobs since I have started. It is a lot of hard work but it is worth it!!!!!
DONT give up on your dreams, they can come true!!!!!!
There's a shop in town that I LOVE! It's 1/2 chocolate shop 1/2 bakery with tall tables and stools. They also serve THE BEST homemade ice cream. I would love a shop like that, but would also like another that just did custom orders for weddings and such.
