When You Freeze A Cake...

when you unthaw it, do you leave it wrapped up or unwrap it?

I'm in the process of freezing my first cake too. Here's a recent thread that will help you. They say you are supposed to leave it wrapped up so the condensation forms on the outside of the wrapping (instead of on the cake). Good Luck on your cake!

I do it all the time and I leave them wrapped. Sometimes, if I have large layers like a 12 x 18, I will fill them frozen (easier to handle frozen layers) and then let them defrost unwrapped before I decorate them.

Thanks guys, I knew I would get quick help! The last time I did it, I left them wrapped and they were mushy on the bottom. awolf, I'm thinking that filling while frozen may be a good idea, these are wedding cake layers. But will them thawing affect the filling?

I haven't had a problem with thawing affecting the filling before...not sure if anyone else has ever noticed anything.
