I don't really know how to price for $ but here in the uk you couldn't get a 2 tier cake for less than £150 which when i use a currency converter is about $320. Either our pricing is hugely different to yours or thats exceptionally cheap.
Sorry not much help i know but i have been wondering about the price difference for a while now

Congratulations on your first wedding order tho

Fresh roses? If so, she should provide those and I think $100 would be a fair price for the cake alone. If you are making the roses out of gumpaste, fondant, etc., you need to adjust the price for the time it will take yout to make them.

Do you know what size cakes you are going to use? Are you making the cake from scratch or using boxed cake mix? These are all things you will need to think about before quoting.

Also, if she heard of you by word of mouth, and you are doing her wedding there is a chance you will get more business by word of mouth, which is great. BUT, if you go too cheap on this one you may be expected by the next customer to do the same.

I would suggest charging around $2-2.50 a slice if you are a novice or if you want to give her a good price. And if you have to do fondant increase the price because it costs more to work with. If she wants a cake for 30 people your price is right in that price range. You may want to tell her you are giving her a reduced price because you are excited to do her wedding....just some thoughts.

I quoted it on a 6" and 8" buttercream. I was planning to do the roses in either the buttercream or better yet royal (to make ahead) I suggested she purchase her own topper, she wanted a bride and groom. She said she will get back to me. She didn't know what she wanted as far as the decorating, smooth sides, cascade? she is buying as a gift for the bride and groom. I did suggest fondant, I find its nice to get a smooth look. I didn't change my price so we will see what she says. I figure its my first and at the very least I will get my cakes out there and I will get a picture. I'm hoping she will want me to do it, but I am nervous at the same time.
