Thank You ceshell, I think being a newbie I was taken aback by such a large request! I think she does want a bargain, and I don't have a problem with that at all, if I had a big wedding to plan I be bargaining all around town!!! That doesn't mean she's gonna get one! I also have no problem with the florist doing the flowers, I hear of people doing that all the time. I think I will just wait it out, if she calls me back I will see how it goes. I am curious to know about the cake for guests though icon_confused.gif . Thank you everybody for your input!! I may have questions on how to do a DUMMY cake later! You know, I sometimes wonder if the dummy in that title doesn't refer to the decorator!! I hear alot of people say that they are harder than a real cake! icon_wink.gif

Here is another thought on this.....Maybe the venue she is having this at doesn't allow any cakes brought in ( ie edible) and she doesn't want to pay for a huge cake from them so is getting sheet cakes provided by them and having you do the big decoration ie...the main wedding cake for show only. This way she gets around the rule since the cake is not edible. BUT...you still have to bake a small cake and ice it in order to provide her and the groom with cake to eat at the "cutting"... It looks like that cake would serve a 1000 people and she may only be having 300....

when I made my daughters wedding cake I wanted a huge tall cake and I knew it would serve more people than what we were having at the wedding but I didn't care and so I ended up throwing away the bottom layer plus part of the next layer. And that is what YOUR bride is planning on doing after her wedding....throwing that away....so it is only for show...

BUT CHARGE HER WELL!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

i would do it. you know you want the challenge. i find icing a dummy much easier than icing a real cake. no crumb coat, you can put your hand on the top when you do the sides... i imagine she wants to feel like a movie star on her day and having a cake like that will make people say wow, look at janes cake. i agree, she's a quite a bit more with it than a lot of brides, but i imagine there is a news story out there that details that cake and the dimensions. personally i have a problem quoting per serving prices on a dummy cake. I would probably figure how much buttercream it would take and multiply that by 3 and add in how many hours you think it will be to decorate it with your rate. she is providing the dummies and the flowers. I would tell her no on the fake cake within the cake. only because you are not licensed. you cannot get in trouble for providing her with "art" for her wedding. she is getting the rest of the cake from somewhere else, let her eat that cake. they can pretend to cut the fake cake. and last but not least, get every little detail of what she expects and your expectations for her in writing. CYA!
