I have an order for cupcakes. I have no idea what to charge. What is a good price for cupcakes per dozen?

Are these plain cupcakes, or wedding cupcakes, or elaborately decorated cupcakes? Are they filled, or just frosted?

Cupcakes aren't sold by the dozen anymore, they are sold individually, and what you charge depends on how much work and/ingredients are involved.

How about a little more info?

They will be nothing too fancy. I have to do them in something either football or Green Bay Packers. No filling, nothing to elaborate frosting. I haven't decided whether to make frosting to look like grass and make a football maybe out of fondant to place on top or maybe just do a simple swirl top with the Green Bay Packers colors

It's impossible to know what to charge unless you know what you are making. Did your customer not want to know the price before ordering??? icon_confused.gif

sdaij5, I think $2.oo - $2.50 a cupcake should be fine for simple cupcakes. At least thats a price you can base them on. Hope that helps thumbs_up.gif

I live in the middle of nowhere, small town USA and can only get about 50 cents per cupcake. I was just at a craft fair last weekend with a booth, and I had an older gentleman (HA) tell me that he could make 12 cupcakes for 50 cents!!!

He must know my grandma. She swears that she can make a wedding cake to feed 200 for $25. icon_confused.gif She was telling me this when I was figuring out how much money I was going to need from my sister for her cake, I tried to tell her that I couldn't even bake the cakes for that. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm in the Iowa boonies too, and people are cheapskates out here!

I have several levels of prices for my cupcakes though. I start with one price for plain old cupcakes with a swirl of frosting, maybe sprinkles. They are 40 cents each for reg and 25 cents for minis. If they require a filling, add 35 cents per cupcake. I also have in my photos pictures of cupcakes and minis I made into roses. Those are $1.00 each for reg size and 60 cents for minis. They don't take a lot more time, just a lot more frosting, but they are unique and people are willing to pay a bit more for them. BTW--I do require a minimum order of 12 reg's or 18 mini's to make it worth my while. I can see some nut call me to order 2 cupcakes or something. icon_confused.gif

I think you need to take into account your area's pricing as well as how much time goes into them. Also if it is custom decorated to match napkins or something you can charge more for them. Or like my roses, if it's something that is a signature item and no one else has anything like it, it may be worth more.

My base charge for cupcakes is 1.00. They only go up from there depending on icing, decorations, etc. I do the minis which I charge .50 as a base price. I find that if tell them that is what you will charge, and they want your EXCELLENT product, they will pay for it.

Thank you very much! The rose tip is #125 and the leaf tip is #112. I lightly ice the cupcake first otherwise you will have cake peeking thru. Then use the cupcake like the rose nail. Very simple, but it Wows people all the time. I have also used the #61 to make sunflowers with chocolate sprinkles in the center for the seeds. Kids love those.

I live in Michigan and I just checked out how much flowers were to buy premade at a cake store was and for tiny little ones the starting price for a flower was .18 a piece for smaller than a dime!! I imagine our cupcakes would be a great deal more.. . But I haven't checked out prices. I am new to this but I am learning how much work and time goes into it and I have a new repect for how much things cost. Good luck!
