A patchwork cutter is a fondant/gumpaste cutter-embosser. It gives shape and detail to the item being cut or embossed. You can either cut the fondant/gumpaste with it, and "patch" it onto the cake, or you can emboss the design onto it, then overpipe the lines to give it dimension. I have attached a pic for you.
