Has anyone ever made a family cookbook? My sister and I want to make one with all of family recipes, mostly our Grandma's and our Great-Grandma's. Our Grandma had a stroke last March and hasn't been able to talk since, she can do almost anything that she did before but she just can't talk. Anyway, we thought we should get all of our family recipes together while they are still fresh in our minds and it would be a good thing for our Grandma to do. We haven't done this before so I was wondering if any of you have any advice or tips on doing this. Thanks for reading!! ![]()
I am the last female of my family to have real recipes that are handed down from the generations. Three years ago I made it my priority to take all the recipes I had in my head and recreate them on paper. I took three weeks just to write down the recipe titles, before setting down to work. Sometimes recipes come into your head when you are not thinking about them. The recipes are only the ones handed down to me by family and friends, not any that I got off the net or from forums.
Then I categorized them by soups, entrees, sides, salads, desserts, and ethnic.
After that, I went to work. It took me another 3 weeks to type everything up. When I was done I created a backup file, and put the cookbook onto two CDs, one in the safe deposit box, and one here for me to copy when they are needed.

Wow, thanks you guys! We would like to design our own cover and everything and have one made for each member of our family, so I should get to work! I wonder if a company would do it with our own design?
