I think I know what I'm going to do, but I just wanted some second opinions.

This is a 50 cake, for a golden wedding anniversary. Instead of piping shells around the bottom, I've put on this border, which has tiny blossom cut outs.

I thought I'd paint it gold with a mixture of confectioner's glaze and gold luster powder. I thought it would add to the theme of a golden wedding anniversary and the white of the sugarpaste underneath, showing through the cut outs would look good.

Do you think it would be toooo fiddly to do?

Also, I'm going to attempt to put a matching border around the top of the cake, to hide the join that is clearly visible.

Anything else you think might work with this cake? It's a black tie function at a rather nice hotel in London. So I really need to make sure this makes a wow!

Thanks for any advice.

Paint it gold! I think that would look stunning! Having just painted these 2 cake with lustre dust (the first just the lines of scroll work - now that WAS fiddly!), I think you could do this border with no problems icon_smile.gif! You just need a steady hand and a fine soft brush.

As for adding anything, are you good with gumpaste/fondant roses? A few on a corner of each cake, painted gold too, might look nice.

Oh wow! I love those cakes. I saw the first one yesterday, but hadn't seen the second one.

They're fab!
