this may sound stupid but i m not kidding i m confused.
what is the difference between 1 layer and 2 layer cake.
for example i have a 8 round pan and 2" i divide them to fill from the center is this one layer or 2 or should i bake two cakes of 2" each (i have 4" cake )and fill them and stack them and then call it 2 layer cake.

If you pour batter into one 8" pan and bake it, you have one layer.
If you take one layer, slice it in half, put filling between these two sliced layers, this is called torting. I consider this a "One layer cake, torted".
If you pour batter into two 8" pans, bake them, put icing/filling between two of these layers, you have a 2 layer cake.
Hope that helps! ![]()
