Please Help Quick-Royal Icing/color Flow
Baking By ChristineMarie Updated 7 Sep 2007 , 7:46pm by kneadacookie
I am making cookies to be decorated-Palm Trees
I bought a bag of CK Royal Icing Mix- you add 5 TBs to the bag of mix for royal icing consistency -For "color flow" consistency you add anotther TB to a 1/2 cup of the royal icing finished mixture...
What do I use?? The royal iciing consistency or the color flow??
I am making tonight(thursday) and they are for saturday at 4pm to be individually wrapped
And what decorating tips are suggested, tip 1 tip 2??
thank you !!
I would use the royal icing consistency for outlining and the color flow to fill in after the outlining dries a little. If it's the 5" palm tree I'd outline with tip 3 and detail with tip 2. If it's a 3" tree I'd go down a size for each job. Hope that helps!
thank you!
I just finished....what a learning experiance
I outlines in royal tip 3
I filled in color flow tip 4 which was ok...and then tip 5 for the other color because i only have one tip 4. I quickly washed that tip 4 becuase the size 5 just flew out everywhere. What a mess! I was green and brown top to bottom as were the cabinets.
My hats off to the cookie decoraters out there, not as easy as it looks for sure.
And one of the cookies over flowed and just kept leaking.
I will post a picture of the "Palm Trees
" soon .[/b]
ALways use a smaller tip for flowing in the color than you use for outlining, otherwise your color will go everywhere like what you experienced. Of course I am always a multicolored royal icing mess when I make cookies lol....even with the small little holes in my piping bags that I use. Can't wait to see your cookies.
Hi! You should definitely look up Antonia74's article (right here on CC) on decorating cookies!! It is awesome!! That's ALL I use now!![]()
OK I am about to post the picture in my photos. I couldnt get it onto here for whatever reason. I think the "outline" looks a bit thick...
I think that you did a good job on them, if you want a thinner outline try piping it with a #2 tip. That is the tip size I outline with and I also don't use a tip for flooding. I just cut a small hole in my piping bag, both the disposable and the parchement ones.
can i just throw my 2 cents in...thanks.
i don't even use a bag when i'm flooding the cookies. i outline with a #3. my flood icing goes in a squeeze bottle(the kind they make for chocolate). i use that to fill in my outline. it's so much easier to handle.
and if i could offer maybe one more suggestion...thanks again. let's see if i can figure out how to write this.
when you outline, you only really need to outline just to mark off an area. for example when you drew your trunk, you went all the way around the trunk. maybe next time you could just outline the bottom so it starts and ends on each side of the leaves. if that makes sense.
geesh, the more i type, the less i understand myself. i guess i'll stop typing.
p.s. your cookies look great!!!
