There is a cake/sculpture in a book I bought that I would like to do that calls for mixing Gumtek into the fondant. The closest place to buy Gumtek for me is an hour away. Is there anything I can use to substitute until I can get to the big city?

I add Tylose to my fondant. I'm not sure if it is any more accessable than gumtek is. HTHs

You will find that some mix Fixodent with fondant. I have tried this and have been pleased with the results. Of course, I only use it on the things that are for decoration although I am sure it wouldn't hurt anyone if consumed. I mix about a teaspoon into a baseball size of fondant and get a gumpaste effect. It is a good substitute when you can't get to the store and need something quick. Hope this helps some. Oh by the way, it comes in powder form.

Fixodent as in the stuff for getting your dentures to stick?
Huh.
Yeah, it would be for the little sculptures that go on the cake. It's a cake that looks like a picnic table with all the burgers and stuff sitting on the table. Looks like fun.

That's right. The stuff you buy in the toothpaste section.

Are gum tragacanth, tylose, gum arabic all interchangeable with Gum-Tex?
