To get the little coupler out of the bag easier... just take a steak knife and run it down the side it won't hurt the coupler but will slice the bag ![]()
I love baking the cake, making the icing and filling for the cakes. I would love it if I had a bigger kitchen, more counter and refrigerator space,. I don't even mind the clean-up much.
But.... I would love to have someone color the icing, fill the bags and crumb coat the cakes. Oh yes, and would love more customers!!
Now.... is that too much to ask?
I have my husband well trained also!
I give him the option to put the kids to bed or bake and make icing. He usually wants to do the cake stuff. He does everything but ice and decorate! Its awesome.
He wants to learn how to cover a cake in fondant. I don't know if I'm ready to let him tackle that!
He'll make a good sous chef some day.
Hmmm my wish would be kind of different. Although a clean-up person would be cool. But my wish would be.... are you ready? ![]()
Sugarshack's BC skills, emmascakes creative eye for color and painting, ThanhThanh's piping skills, Aine2's modelling skill and Shirley W's gumpaste flower skills.
I'd wash dishes anytime to have this wish come true!!! ![]()

Now that I'm back into cake decorating, I miss my old job at the bakery, sometimes, if not the pay.
The baker baked the cakes and made the icing, then there was a man to make the fillings, tag the tiers and torte and fill the cakes. All I had to do when I came in on Thursday was ice and decorate, and put them together. The cakes were sent out with the catering servers, so they had to be really sturdy for delivery! We had a dishwasher to clean all of the dishes, too.
Now, I pay my 16 year old to load/unload the dishwasher for me, sweep up, and clean counters. My mom and DH do dishes, too, but I try not to leave messes for them to pick up. I've learned to pace myself and not be grumpy by the time I get to the fun part, by baking one day, making fillings and icing then torting and filling the cake on the second day, then icing and decorating the third day.
I have two large wedding cakes for friends on the same weekend next month, one on Friday and one on Sunday. The Sunday cake is 19 6" centerpieces and a small two-tier main cake.
I have hired my mom for that weekend, with the option to hire the 16 year old, too!
