I just got back from the interview and I got it! I will be THE cake decorator at a local grocery store. The thing is that they haven't had a cake decorator there for awhile now so it's like we're just starting out... I have to go through all their pans, boards, boxes and tell them what to order... I'll also be taking special orders (he said he's going to call me with the customer's phone number so there's no confusion as to what they want each time they get an order). The cool thing is they're willing to let me use the kitchen to make wedding cakes! They want to put an ad out advertising my cakes (on the radio, newspaper & as bag stuffers). All in all I'm pretty excited about it... they seem very versatile with what I do and basically it's up to me, I'm not under anyone there. After only a year and a half of cake decorating... this is NUTS!

That is excellent - congrats on getting the position. It sounds like you have a great opportunity on your hand and will be able to really guide where this store goes with their cakes!

Wohoo, party time!

Let us know how it goes.

WAY TO GO!! I'm sure you'll be great! I wouldn't worry about how many years of experience you've had, because it depends more on your willingness to do the work and your TALENT! ( I'm sure you are an awesome decorator).

GOOD LUCK!!!

What a great opportunity! Sounds like you pretty much have the run of the place.

For a job like that, I'd give up this work at home gig in a heartbeat. icon_lol.gif

Are you near Waukesha? I have in-laws I could refer to you for all their cake needs. Love your forget-me-not cake.

Congratulations, neighbor! I'm only about 100 miles south of you. Glad to hear the cake biz in Cheese Land is doing well!

I currently teach full time and I am slowly (and I mean s-l-o-w-l-y) working up the nerve to try this cake thing on a more regular basis. Thankfully, I can put my summers "off" to good use. We shall see what happens.

Ok. Sorry to hijack your great news! Congrats again! You'll do great - and that's awesome that they'll let you do wedding cakes in their kitchen! Good luck!

Thanks!!! Waukesha is near Milwaukee right? Milwaukee is about 90 minutes south of here. The owner of the grocery store is excited about doing "different" cakes... like the shaped pans... no one else offers that around here. I'm not exactly sure how the pricing is going to work for wedding cakes yet... not sure if I'd rather get a percentage of it or just get paid hourly for it... but we'll figure that out in time, I'm just nervous about starting work again! It's been almost 2 years for me! And this is doing something that I've never done before... well, at least professionally icon_smile.gif

Yes, Waukesha is between Milwaukee and Madison-- nearer to Milwaukee. Good luck with the job.
