I have a sheet cake wedding cake coming up for the 17th! I want to make two sugar bells to place on the cake but I can not find a mold any where. If I was able to get a hold of an actual bell, I think my mother-in-law collects them, do you think it would work for a sugar mold? I only plan on having a half bell not a 3D bell!

I am really set on doing this but I just can't find a mold and I'm afraid if I find one online I won't get it in time! icon_cry.gif

Sugar bell molds are hard to find now days cause not many people still use them. If I were you I would resort to using plastic bells. You can find them in a hobby shop such as Hobby Lobby or even some of the Dollar Stores carry them. I found some really pretty ones at a Dollar Tree store one time for just a few bucks. I guess if you wanted to you could use the plastic ones for a mold, but it might be kinda hard to do.

If you cant find them, you can pm me and I can see if I still have some and I would be willing to mail a few of them to you if you want.

Hope this helps.

What about Christmas Decorations. You can get large bells but I am not sure how big you want. I have filled them with damp sugar tip them out and when the sugar is hard on the outside I scrape the middle out as it is still soft. If you are wanting half bells that could be quite a problem. Good Luck.

Sugar molding is very easy and as for making half bells, you should be able to find a plastic bell either in christmas decorations or in the aisle of candy at walmart. the bell will be filled with hard candy, just dump it out wash the mold, dry it real well and dust with cornstarch, then mold sugar.

I am one who likes to work with molded sugar and have used every thing from candy molds to plastic boxes to mold sugar in.

WOW!!! Thank you everyone!!! I'll check out our Dollar Tree store for anything that might work and our Big Lots!!!! Thank you for the tip that the center of the bell part might not be dry completely! I've made sugar molds before and that's the first thing I thought of to put on the center of this wedding sheet cake. Now the bride is set on having them!!!! So I gotta do it!!!

I book marked that site BTW! Very cool stuff!!!!!!
