For my son's 1 yr birthday Iam going to make an octopus cake...my husband and i have most of the logistics worked out. it will be an octopus cake sitting on a square cake with rkt for the legs. now, the question we have been debating is how to cover the legs with fondant...should I cover the legs separately and then attach them or try to cover the entire cake body and rkt legs at once (maybe with two applications of fondant)?

Could you please clarify what rkt is? Then maybe I can help.

I personally would cover each rice krispie treat leg with fondant and then attach them, I think that would be so much easier! Good luck and post when your done!!!

I agree with gingersoave. Cover the legs first then attach to the body. Good luck and post a picture.

Do it all at once if you like to get frustrated and want to swear like a sailor under your breath. icon_biggrin.gif

Do one leg at a time and attach it if you want to stay sane and happy. icon_lol.gif

I'm sure your cake will be adorable. but if you want an easier way to make an octopus cake, William Sonoma store has an adorable cake pan that makes an octopus. They offered it in the store during the summer months, and online the last time I looked. I wanted to buy it myself-it was so cute, but I could not come up with any reason to give my husband as to why I would need an Octopus cake pan!
