The past few times I've used buttercream it goes on great but as I'm decorating the rest of the cake, it begins to 'bulge' at the bottom....almost as if it's sliding off the cake. It isn't between the layers, just at the bottom. Is my icing too thin or am I just using too much? It was fairly cool in the house and the layers were baked the previous day. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Forgot to add - by the time it begins to 'bulge' the icing has begun to crust so it's difficult to repair.

Anytime my icing is too thin...it always wants to bulge at the bottom especially when it is a round cake. I find when the consistency is a little thicker it does not do that.

My thought would be to add a little less liquid to your buttercream.
