Okay guys, how does this work again? The cakes that are "todays most popular cakes" are the ones that are most saved or the ones that are just looked at the most. Here I thought that all the "popular cakes" were just the ones people clicked on, not actually saved....
Thing is, I don't save cakes. Even if I really REALLY like them. I have 4 saved cakes and I didn't even remember they were there. They are all wedding cakes from when I was "dreaming" about "planning" my wedding.
Thing is I've never wanted to copy someone's cake, so I figure if I look at it, I'll have the idea in the back of my head, but if I don't save them I won't be tempted to make a replica (this is just one of my things, nothing against those who follow another's designs).
So, my next question is, why do people save cakes?
I save cakes for many different reasons. I don't ever plan to directly copy someone else's work - unless it is a specific design that I really like and then I will ask their permission first.
Sometimes I save them for "inspiration", or as a reminder of a technique I want to try, or they are just so beautiful that I aspire to be that good one day. There are so many that I see that I find interesting that I would never remember or just have them in the back of my mind so I save them to refer to later.
Yep, I save them into my favorites and to my "inspiration" folder. (so I can't loose them no matter what) For the most part it's never a whole cake I want to reproduce but there's something about it that I think is cool. Then I'll pull a couple of new ideas together and voila! Something new or different turns out.
I don't want to copy anyone's cake either, I will save a cake because there's something about it that might want to try on one of my cakes. Or because I love the work that particular person does and I like having access to their gallery so I can browse and say, 'Wow I wish I could do that!' It's like keeping books of your favorite artists around the house so you can look again and again at their works of art.
I save photos for several reasons:
inspriation - the fondant sculptures and wedding cakes fall in this one= I hope that someday I can make something similar...
cuteness - there is just something endiring about the cake - like all the puppy ones
ideas that the kids might like - princesses, fairies, trucks, transformers - things that I could probably replicate with Butter Cream transfers
I think I look through my favorites at least once a day - at work - makes me remember how much ingridents and "toys" cost so I'll keep working to afford this new found hobby/addiction! ![]()
Angela I have that problem to...and I wanted to save one of the "naughty" cakes in my Favs. Because I am doing my first one for friday!!!
I of course emailed the pic to myself now after I make the cake I have to return to the gallery and see who made the cake instead of going into my favs to look ![]()
