I have a request for a fake cake with slab cakes to cut...I've never had anyone order slabs for a wedding...how much should I charge per slab? Also, If I want to keep the fake cake could I just charge a 'rental' fee of say $100.00??? Or is that too much!?
I have to give her a response so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Judith
Check pricing for your area for slab/sheet type cakes and look at the cost of your time and ingredients. Generally those type of cakes are going to be less costly to the bride because they have no decoration and are less time consuming to decorate.
As far as the dummy cake you can charge a rental fee to ensure you get your dummies back but remember they are going to take just as long as a real cake to decorate so you'll need to look at materials (icing, etc) and your time and the difficulty of the design to decide how much to charge. People sometimes think they will save money this way but it can end up costing just as much if not more to do it this way. I don't know why the bride mags even suggest this type of option.
