I'm making my first wedding and I have no idea what to charge. It will be a 3 tier staked cake in fondant for around 100 people. Any suggestions?

Wedding cakes are usually charged by the servings. So you would take the $ x #servings of the cake. Now to figure out what to charge per serving
. You might call around to other bakers to see what they charge. Buttercream will be cheaper than fondant covered. Pretty much what I have seen is $2.00 for BC is a good starting point, and any where from 1.75 or up more for the fondant.

So, are you all not charging different for the tiered cake? How do you break prices between a sheet cake, layer cake and tiered cake? I'm struggling with pricing issues myself. (Just getting started.) I'm coming to cakes from a pottery background. The market kind of sets the prices for pottery, and what's ridiculous is you might get twice as much for something that takes you half the time to make. I used to think wedding cakes were the cash cows for cake decorators. But it sure seems like they're much more costly and time consuming than sheet cakes.
I start my sheet cakes and any other non-stacked cake at $1/serving (I figure they are less stress and need no supports). Any sheet cake that is carved into a flat shape (like a shirt, flip-flops, etc.) at 1.25/serv. Any stacked or tiered cake $1.50/serving. 3-d or whimsical cakes at $3/serving and I add .35/serving for speciality cake or filling flavors and .75/serving for fondant. then figures, bows, gumpaste flowers or any thing like that is additional depending on what they want and the time it takes to make it.

I've struggled with this too. In my area, the going rate is $1 - $1.50 per slice. I'm still new at all this, so I hate to overcharge. I did give a quote this week for $1.00 per serving but I charge extra for special fillings and for fondant. I figure as I start getting better, I'll charge a little more.
