I made a hat box cake, but had a really hard time getting the lid on (and secure) and putting in the fondant tisue paper, can anyone tell me how this is done correctly so that the cake can travel and be secure. My lid was not stable and my tissue kept falling out. Was cute, but not right. Thanks.

Was your lid propped open with dowels? I think several people have done this, also holding it in place with RI. I believe the tissue is held frequently with RI as well. That stuff is really great glue. It held all of my fair pieces tight in transit-nothing moved an inch!

My lid was made of styrofoam and so not that heavy and it ever so lightly layed on the flowers and what i did was "glued" it to the cake with royal icing and it held terrifically!!! Also, another idea is using rice paper as tissue paper - just very, very lightly spritz the tissue paper and crumble it as you would tissue paper to put in a bag, then put it in a glass or something to hold it's shape. When it has dried, you can tuck the rice tissue paper into the crevices of your hat box.
