I realize this topic has been discussed before but I still have a couple of questions:
I bought some "acid-free" scrapbooking paper today for covering the cardboards. Do I still need to cover it with clear contact paper so the icing doesn't make stains?
Also bought some Reynolds white freezer paper. Does the shiny side go next to the cake? I kind of liked the "flat" side of the paper better, but I've never tried this method.
Thank you all for your help!
I use scrapbooking paper all the time so I can answer that one for you. I always still cover it with clear contact paper for a couple of reasons. It protects the paper from staining, and the contact paper is SOO easy to clean up once you've iced the cake. The icing wipes off with just a damp paper towel and it looks like it was never there.
I've not used the freezer paper so I don't know about that, but HTH!

I love how easy it is to clean contact paper!!!!! Especially when you are carving a cake and get cake crumbs all over it.

I covered my cakeboard this morning using scrapbook paper! Square board about 11" and then covered with the clear contact paper. I think I'm going to be doing this a whole lot more with my cakes! The contact paper I found has a matte finish and doesn't take away from the print of the paper.
Thanks to you all!!
