My very best friend is turning 40 next week. I really want to get her something really special, something that she can keep. She is going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, in the middle of separating from her husband of 10 years.

I had originally thought to get her a nice upmarked handbag but was stupid enough not to buy the one that I wanted to get her, and now it is gone. There is not enough time to get another one in before her birthday. I was browsing in the shops again today when I noticed a necklace, it is a circle in white gold set with small diamonds. It is called a "Circle of Life" necklace. The back has a tiny little ruby, it is supposed to be worn against the skin to bring good health.

The two items are about the same in price so that is not really the issue, but my only worry about buying piece of diamond jewellery is too weird for a friend, maybe a bit too husbandy? Also I don't want her to feel uncomfortable about amounts spent. At the same time I really like the symbolism of the necklace, just a little reminder that this is a rough patch in the great overall scheme.

There is not much to buy where I live, so it is either jewellery or jewellery really.

What would you do?

It sounds really nice & I don't think there's anything weird about buying jewellery for a friend - I've done it lots of times icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you very much Tramski and jules06 for your input. I would normally not be in such a pickle about this, but I really want to get it right since my friend is not in the best place right now.

But I think I will take your advice and go and get the necklace tomorrow. Thanks again!

I think it is a great idea, and I think if you explained what the necklace is all about she will love it even more for your thoughtfulness ..
