Tier Sizes - Will It Be Too Big

Hi fellow CCers. I am working on a proposal for a wedding cake top tier will not be saved so I can use it in my serving calculation. The cake needs to feed between 90 and 100......using Earlene's chart a 14, 10, 6 inch cake will feed 103 and a 12, 10, 8 inch will feed 90. The cake will be simple design, fondant ribbon aroud the bottom of each tier, with some chocolate shells placed aroud the base of each cake. So my question, will and 8 inch cake look too big as a top tier or am I better off going with the 14, 10, 6? If so will the two inch difference around each cake look too wide? Thanks in advance.
i have one 14, 10, 6 cake in my photos for you to look at, i served it at our 10th wedding anniversary on the weekend...
i use the wilton serving size and still had PLENTY of cake (1x2x4) - it says it will cut 116 servings
i too am doing up a proposal for a 100 serving cake and plan on using the 14,10,6 again unless she wants less space around the tiers
i like the look of less space, but don't have the pans (yet) to accommodate it
p.s. everyone said they felt they had LOTS of cake to eat
I use 14/10/6 for weddings for 100 (not counting top tier). Here is the wilton chart. A 12/9/6 would look proportionately good and it serves exactly 100. http://www.wilton.com/wedding/cakeinfo/cakedata.cfm
I would give the bride her choice and charge her accordingly, per the servings shown on the chart.
uuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh
my bad - i just gave away TWO cakes with FREE top tiers, not thinking...
my eyes are boggled from estimating cakes and i've only begun....i guess this is a lesson learned!
oh well - at least i have my bases covered - i usually charge 3 times my cost, plus add 10/hour (usually 5 hours)
eeekk! i'm laughing and slapping myself at the same time....
