The Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough Sheets. I saw this at Sam's club and I was just wondering if anyone has used it? Can you use royal icing on them? How long to they last? How do they taste? TIA

When my kids were small, I bought the sugar cookies in the tubes that had the holiday shaped middles and they were good.

I'm sure you can decorate them with r/i - they're a sugar cookie.

bump!!

I really want to know if anyone has tried this. I would like to try them but don't want to waste time and $$$'s. The package at Sams has 4 packages in the box and makes 72 cookies! Should I just try the NFSC instead? I would probably toss the icing it comes with because I want to try Antonia's icing.

Thanks all!

It has been my experience that the store bought (Pillsbury) sugar cookie dough is to soft (usually have to add flour). I like a much firmer dough. I also don't like the taste as much as the recipe that I use.

Were these very expensive?

Hey Rezzy! I haven't talked with ya in awhile! What have you been up too?

I agree with southaustingirl, I think it's too soft of a cookie to use for decorating with royal. I really, really love the NFSC...they hold their shape so well....and are very yummy!

Hey Denise .. I've been right here! Thanks for the info. I guess I will try the NFSC. I have printed the recipe for that and antonias icing...so I guess I'll just go for it.

Southaustingirl.. Thanks for the info! The price at Sam's club was $6.68.

Can you check to see if a local grocery store carries the product? They'll be selling them in single units, rather than multiples, and then you wouldn't be out so much if you didn't like it. (I'd just bring the cookies to work, and they'd be gone by mid-morning, regardless of how they tasted!)

I used to use the ready made sugar cookie dough in the log thingy.....had to add flour to make cut out cookies but it tasted good......kinda too sweet with icing on it too though...but kids still love em' the more sugar the better with kids I guess. I wonder if these have a different texture since they're expecting you to cut them with cutters. I mean that's what it's made for right? It's worth a shot if you don't feel like making cookie dough and don't mind spending a little more money (cookie dough ingredients are NOT that pricey...except the butter) and I find that using half butter and half crisco with the NFSC recipe works REALLY great!!

I can say I used them before, or should I say my kids. icon_biggrin.gif

I cut out sugar cookies every Christmas and my kids LOVE to help. So, last year I saw these sheets and bought some (they were on sale) so that my kids would stay out of my dough. It's perfect for the kids. It has the same taste as the ones in the log, which my kids think is the best thing in the world. icon_rolleyes.gif

As for the dough sheets, I found that you couldn't roll it right out of the fridge. It was pretty firm, brittle. Even after I'd let it set out is was still that way. The only way to really "roll" it out was to squish it up into a ball and then roll it. The sheets are also about 1/4 inch thick too, so too thick for my regular sugar cookies as we like them thinner. My kids would just take the sheet and cut out a cookie, and one sheet would only give you about 3 cookies. Expensive for what you get, but the kids thought it was neat.

That's my opinion. icon_smile.gif
