can someone give me some pointers on how to get a good chocolate icing? I am wanting to take my already made buttercream icing and turn it into a chocolate icing - what do I add and how much? Please give me some advice. thanks everyone

I like to add Hershey's syrup - I think you get a better flavor and color than adding just cocoa powder. You may have to add more powdered sugar to compensate for the extra liquid.

I'm very fond of Wilton's buttercream recipe:

Melted unsweetened chocolate squares give it a very rich taste, especially if you use a good chocolate like ghiradelli. Mmmmmm.

I always make my chocolate icing with a buttercream base and then add cocoa powder to taste and until I get the color I want.

This is my favorite-won the Hershey Cocoa contest at a local fair with it:

It's basically buttercream but you add the cocoa at the beginning before you start adding sugar.
