I would love some ideas about unusual flavor combinations you have tried and what worked and even what didn't. I am looking forward to some great ideas on here. Thank you.
if you're nervouse, try mixing something you DO like and are familiar with , with a new flavor. for example, chocolate cake, with whipped milk chocolate ganache with a touch of orange oil.
or, vanilla cake with italian meringue buttercream flavored with a liqueuer. here's a strange one, odd, but really delicious. the liqueuer is amarula. its a cream blended with fermented marula fruit. it grows on the "elephant trees" in africa, naturally ferments on its own and the elephants love to eat it and get tipsy. sound disgusting yet? not at all. with the cream, it has flavors of caramel, hints of chocolate and vanilla. yum. my husband describes it as a rolo candy.
my favorite combinations are:
moist dark chocolate cake with whipped milk chocolate ganache.
amaretto cake with espresso italian meringue buttercream.
lemon cream cheese cake with zest and fresh raspberry puree and whipped cream cheese frosting.
carrot cake w/ whipped cream cheese icing
i also love mango, passion fruit, toasted coconut and pecan custard, VERY vanilla swiss meringue buttercream with chocolate shavings, chocolate dipped cherries or strawberries, chocolate wraps (collars), brown sugar banana cake, cinnamon swirl with apples and caramel smbc.
