My Overly Tired Just Turned 4Y Recently Paid Me A Compliment

last night.
His birthday was Oct 14 and I did a Thomas cake using the 3d train pan. I thought it looked nice enough and all, but nothing compared with some here on this site.
So out of the clear blue, he starts to whine, which normally we don't allow, but he was tired from a busy day. He says, "I want my Thomas cake" over and over. Then says, "I want my Thomas cake--it was beautiful"!
Needless to say, the cake is long gone--thanks to dh! My kiddos did not get too much of the cake.
Dh looks at me and says, "You heard him, start baking" in a joking manner. We had to listen to ds talk about the cake for the next hour. He was even muttering it when he was falling asleep.
So maybe a mini train cake today!
That is such a cute story
I can't tell you how many times my son will say, "Mom could you make me a { insert cake or cookie bouquet} for my teacher, friend, etc." Guess what I always do
Like you said he gives the greatest compliments but he is not shy about telling me when it is not up to his standards.
BTW he is 8.
Ahhh, how sweet!!
As I was making a My Little Pony FBCT for my daughter's cake (4 on Oct. 30th) she kept telling me not to cover up the eyes, etc. I toldher she'd jsut have to trust me, that her cake would turn out fine. She said, "I always trust you." 4 is a cool age!!
His birthday is the same day as my 8 year old's. ![]()
It's wonderful when your kids tell you how much they like your work.
Did you take a picture of the cake? If you did make sure you let him look at it, my children love to go through my pictures and remember what I made each cake for.
oh i'm a sucker i would be baking as soon as i got the chance. I try my best to get my babies anything they want especially when its food related. I couldnt go to sleep last night thinking of the thomas cake i'm going to make for my soon to be 3yr old, his bday is dec 3rd and i want to get the design down in my head so i was up lastnight tossing for about an hr trying to get the darn cake out of my mind. he loves loves loves thomas!
My youngest son usually gives me great compliments on my work. When it comes to competition cakes, he tells me exactly what he thinks. He could be judge! He finds the flaws and very diplomatically tells me about them. He does such a good job that I ask him to "judge" the cake before I take it anywhere. A couple of times he has noticed things that made a huge difference in the piece.
It's funny because he's very serious about his judging. I do have to tell my family when I want just an over-all opinion or judging. When I just need an opinion, I tell them I can't take any criticism right now, so DON'T judge. ![]()
My son can decorate quite well, but would be mortified if any of his friends knew that he can bake and decorate (he's 13). So, getting compliments from him are good and sincere. One year when I didn't win at the Tulsa show, he was so angry with the judges that he helped me pack just to get out of there. He packed my flowers perfectly and took everything apart while people were talking to me. He had planned to enter the next year to prove that a kid could make a winning cake, but the rules changed to 18 and above. He was 9 at the time. His idea was excellent, and he probably would have gotten some kind of medal. He has had a bit of disdain for judges ever since! ![]()
Kids are great at most ages. ![]()

My daughters birthday was Oct 15th, (she's 4 too...LOL) I made her a princess castle for her birthday. She asked me to print out the picture I took of her cake and tape it next to her bed so she could look at it while she went to sleep....AWWWWWWW. LOL. Must be the age/birth date combo. LOL
