today is my DH's birthday so i made him a bonsai tree cake because he loves to grow them. i rushed to finish it by the time he came home from work yesterday to surprise him. he loved it. said he almost watered it. icon_lol.gif

of course i can see a billion flaws in it but he's easily impressed ... that's why i married him icon_biggrin.gif

it was my first attempt at this type of cake and i definitely learned a lot. i got the idea to use floral wire as the tree structure base from CC! this site is so great! thumbs_up.gif

That cake is fantastic!!!!! You Bonsai Tree is awesome!! It is very realistic. I can see why your husband loved it!!! Is the tree trunk all fondant?

You should be very proud of yourself, that cake is a work of art!!!

yes, the trunk is all fondant ( around floral wire )

Just curious, how did you anchor the tree into the cake to keep it upright?

the tree is floral wire with fondant wrapped around it. it is 4 wires, twisted around each other in the middle for the trunk. i left 1 wire straight to anchor into the cake and the other 3 i brought out for tree roots.
