Need Help!!!

I am trying to duplicate an older style record player. It has a lid that opens up and stays proped open by itself. I was wanting to use styrofoam for the lid but need advice on how to attach it? Can anyone please help me with this?

This is a link to a post on how to do a hat box. I think you might be able to use the same technique to prop any lid open.

If you want it open all the way I would use dowels through the stryofoam then pushed into the cake. HTH
